I think that's "someone", not "something". Otherwise, this just sounds like some particularly flowery justification for theft.
And it's not like you can actually stop anyone from leaving you, unless you live somewhere slavery is legal AND you own that someone, and in that case, that someone very literally is yours in the first place.
And if we're talking romantic relationships, I'm pretty sure that if she or he comes back and ditching you for someone else, you're just a convenience to them, and this Unattributed fellow sounds like a total cuck.
Or maybe this "something" is a pet, in which case it's a matter of semantics but Unattributed should take a peek at that video of seals being let into the ocean, free, and immediately get eaten by a pack of Orcas.
