Cobalt loves to be large and in charge. But when it comes to Dragon Lord Ember, he doesn’t mind being small and weak. He adores his dragon lord so much, he loves finding chances to be in her presence, to get affection from her. One of the greatest honors is to be literally at the dragon lord’s feet, to be trusted with pampering her paws.

Ember is sometimes rough with big dragons, and she may not mind seizing a kingdom when it causes her too much trouble. Even so, she has a soft spot for dragons who are small and vulnerable. Even when Cobalt messes up, she is touched by how hard he tries to please her.

Ember didn’t always like the idea of painting her nails. She used to think it was too girly and delicate. But when she met Cadance, she was taken by surprise. This super-girly alicorn knew how to pack a punch – yet it never detracted from her delicate appearance. When the two rulers went shopping, Cadance introduced Ember to pedicures. And Cadance found a nail polish that seemed perfect for a dragon lord: a blood red that would remind Ember’s enemies how dangerous she can be when severely provoked. For the first time, Ember felt herself truly embracing her femininity!

Right now, Cobalt is a normal size. Ember is a giantess, but not too big. Their Dragon Overlord status is mainly in another dimension – when they’re dreaming, with their minds in another dimension.

In the “real world”, Cobalt is a pretty normal dragon, and Ember isn’t really any more powerful than the Mane 6 combined. A bit of the Dragon Overlord magic occasionally creeps into the “real world”, but it’s not much different from the ponies’ Elements of Harmony.
