I made my own little spin on Opaline.

I’ve heard a fair share of complaints about Opaline’s character and design. For fun, I thought I’d share my own spin

It’s heavily implied her being an Alicorn was her own means and might not fully be in power. What if being immortal but not full in power took a negative toll on her, physically and mentally.

Imagine if she doesn’t just want power to for the sake of more power but that she might actually need more power to survive. Perhaps she’s been heavily weakened for a while and has had to lay low and conserve to keep not just her powers but her own life. All those years hiding, watching made her not vain and haughty like OG Opaline but stoic, not fully…in it and the one thing keeping her grounded, is the day magic comes back and she can finally continue what she wasn’t able to back so long, long ago.

My Opaline’s def less ““showing care is unbecoming, makes u weak, I shall have it all to myself” and far more reserved, deep in thoughts but she is still obsessed with becoming full in power. She def tries far more to keep herself composed and breaking. With that said, when you’ve been waiting for CENTURIES while in a bad state, that can be really hard. ESPECIALLY WHEN THERES A BUNCH OF FRIENDSHIP MAGIC WANNABES THAT WILL GET IN THE WAY OF EVERYTHING SHES WORKED TOO LONG AND HARD FOR!

When she lets it all out, it’s SCARY!

I wanted her to looks like the opposite you’d think of an Alicorn, elegant, powerful, radiant. Show her like she’s barely keeping it together. I also made her hair more flowy like the other alicorns but just at the bottom to show she’s not in full state. It’s more white with gradual darkness, to give off a very gloomy, Dp fading vibe. She has a lot of dark tips, as she’s on the tip of things.

Her colors r far less vibrant, more grayish, fading with gradient darkness. The most colorful parts are her eyes that have a bit of fade in them and her mark.

I redesigned her cutie mark to look similar to twilights, with a mix of Nightmare Moon’s. It’s meant to be a gemstone trying to shine in the dark, there’s even a bit of cracks around her mark.

She’s also less outwardly cruel to Misty. She’s def far more careful with how she acts towards her best ally and far more subtle, less on the nose on her manipulation. Even manipulating herself that she truly is helping Misty in the end. Ngl I can see her tell her some of the tales of the old, might’ve even told her about the Cutie Mark Crusaders who also went for quite a lot of trial for their marks.
And one of Misty’s other reasons for helping Opaline as she’s seen first hand why she needs magic and doesn’t want to Potentially lose the one pony that’s ever been there for her.

I can see her show more kindness and patience, even a bit of fondness for Misty who along with helping with her plans, does a lot things such as chores and cooking for her, something in her state, she has a lot of trouble doing. She really hopes once everything comes to motion, she’ll pay Misty back full for everything…she won’t get in her way right?

I can def see her have a bit of rasp in her voice.

She’s def still terrified of her…especially when the…side effects of not enough magic kick in. Misty’s seen a lot.

I want to give off Belos and Hunter vibes.

She’s def less powerful but still very capable, especially when using more hood made spells, to use her magic with. I can see her be aware of the Zebra Zecora and might’ve found spells of the more dangerous and dark or good spells she twisted for her gain. I can imagine she needs to feed off magic in a way, in order to keep herself going, I def want Belos vibes.

I’m honestly going for the more scary modern cartoon villains like White Diamond, Niwhere King, Belos, the Beast etc.

Maybe she wants to still control the magic but for less…typical villain reasons. Maybe she wasn’t the exact cause for all the fighting and in fact was trying to stop it all, Princess Twilight unable to, Unfortunately making the situation worse.

Opaline- They say u learn from the past so the future will be better but frankly It seems like it’s just been getting worse.
She tried so, so hard for eveyrone but it was NEVER ENOUGH! They were never satisfied! They always found something to fight over, the biggest thing they fought over and continually abused and took for granted! Magic! When things started getting out of hand, Twilight made the crystals to get them to stop fighting, but soon enough it was gone. It was all gone and…she was gone.
Everything she did, ALL THAT WORK DESTROYED! IT WAS ALL FOR NOTHING! Now that it’s back, I’m going to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself. U think every pony has a natural good in them Sunny but they also have plenty of selfishness.
They only way to make sure they use the good more is control what they desire the most! I HAVE SACRIFICED FAR TOO MUCH FOR YOU TO RUIN EVERYHTING! This is your final warning.
