A lot of campaign progression is about making connections and leveraging them to get what you want. But when combined with the usual power fantasy aspect, eventually the campaign hits this point where you call for the heavy hitters and look around the silent room only to realize, “Oh. We’re the heavy hitters now.”
DM: I’m just very, very surprised that you’re arguing against a powerup like this. Maybe I should have asked Rainbow Dash.
Rainbow Dash: Nah, I’d also be looking for the strings attached.
Twilight Sparkle: Everything I studied in the archives says that we’ve been focusing on empowering one pony for too long! The magic of friendship is our newest and best defense! And there’s something wrong about the timing of all this! We JUST narrowly drove off Discord, and now this happens? Making it a big one-on-one battle is probably what they want! We ought to stick to our principles and work together!
Princess Luna: Admirable, but consider the tactical threat of Tirek’s ability. Suppose we fight him in a group, but Tirek corners one of us and drains us dry. In that situation, the tide turns VERY quickly.
Princess Celestia: I hate to admit this, Twilight, but… It hasn’t been that long since I was overpowered by the changeling queen. I’m fully healed, but it’s apparent I’m not the Cleric I used to be. We are no longer Equestria’s strongest protectors. You are.
Twilight Sparkle: That’s a deeply worrying notion.
Fluttershy: ^That’s an EXTREMELY worrying notion…!^
