Since you are speaking to an expert on magic, you decide to ask Twilight Sparkle about ways to keep the Yggdrasil seed hidden from those who would seek its power for themselves.
Twilight Sparkle: “I don’t think there’s an easy way to go about this.
A concealment spell powerful enough to hide the Yggdrasil seed’s signature would require an impossibly large quantity of magic to cast, and still it wouldn’t fool the most basic of detect magic spells.
The only other option I can think of is to seal the seed’s magic away, but that would prevent anyone from using it, including you. And didn’t you say it was important to your clan?”
Moonflower: “Yuh uh! It’s the Oracle’s Eye. I guess I jus’ don’t know how to use it yet.”
Apple Basket: “Right, but until then, how do we keep them grootslangs away from Starfalls Town?”
Twilight Sparkle: “If that’s what you’re worried about, then you should know that while grootslangs are known for seeking out glowing and shiny objects, they aren’t attracted to — or able to sense — magic itself.
As a matter of fact, no creature in Equestria has the innate ability to sense magic from afar that we know of. Not even I can do it without a spell.
My guess is that one of them had been hiding for a while in the waterfall you found it in, up until it was tempted by the seed. I mean, it does look fascinating.”
Apple Basket: “If that’s what it is, then we’d better paint over it so it looks like any ol’ boring rock.”
Moonflower: “No kiddin’! But if it’s anythin’ like the elder’s crystal ball, then that’s not gonna work. I jus’ don’t want anypony gettin’ hurt ‘cause I’m carryin’ somethin’ that causes trouble, ya know?”
Twilight Sparkle: “If it’s any consolation, from my experience with magic artifacts, I’ve learned that there’s a chance it chose you to be its bearer because it knows you and your friends can keep it safe.”
Moonflower takes a moment to think those words over. Then, she nods.
Moonflower: “Maybe you’re right! I didn’t get this far alone, and I’m not gonna be keepin’ this thing by myself either. That’s what my clan is for!”
Twilight Sparkle: “I’m glad you’re feeling more confident. And if you’d like to learn more about Yggdrasil, there’s a few books you can borrow from the castle’s library. I’m not sure how much there is to learn from them, but it might be worth a look.
… Now that I think about it, those books are still shelved under Myths and Legends, aren’t they? I’ll… have to reorganize them later.”
The princess unfurls what seems to be an exhaustive to-do list, and adds a new task at the bottom of it.
