The movie:  
-Explicitly focuses on how earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns live in a world without magic and separate, explaining the rules, traditions, and how each society functions.  
-in the last 5 minutes, the three tribes come together, magic comes back, and re-shapes everything  
-NOTHING explained or laid out in the movie will matter for the tv series other than “Oh btw magic came back guys and that’s why Sunny can use alicorn powers”.

Where was it said the world would be different? I haven’t been keeping up with g5’s promotion.

Ya know, this… really renders the G5 movie as pointless.
 
Hear me out; the G5 movie was meant to introduce us to the characters and the world they live in. That’s what many movies-that-lead-into-tv-series do.
 
However, the G5 movie… isn’t the same world as the TV series. As we ALL know by now, the world of the G5 movie is devoid of magic and the world works in accordance with those rules with the plot being the return of magic. However, it’s not like magic is returned at the halfway point and we see how the characters have changed post-magic, magic is only returned at the VERY end of the movie and then the movie closes.
 
“But that’s the point! The TV series is supposed to show us how they are adapting to it.” I hear some of you say.  
So you agree that the world ISN’T the same world as the one in the movie, thus requires the characters to re-learn it.
 
“It’ll be the same characters with the same quirks!” I hear others of you say.  
Except that again isn’t true. All unicorns now have magic. All pegasi can fly. All earth ponies have the ability to till the land. The abilities and even “little quirks” of the cast are now completely different and the viewer and in-universe cast need to re-learn this.
 
The final step here is that the voice actors aren’t even the same.
 
Thus, there is nothing familiar from the G5 movie being present other than models of the 3D characters, but they won’t sound the same, act the same, or be in the same world as the movie.
 
This COULD work to it’s strengths though, as writing the movie off as a stand-alone story, it allows the writers to factor in how season 9 ended.

I just realized…
 
This means the movie means nothing.
 
The movie was:  
-to introduce the cast  
-to introduce the world
 
But by the end of it:  
-the world has completely changed (magic is re introduced AND the three tribes are unified again)  
and now  
-the cast is completely different
 
They literally have made it so that the film is useless and has nothing to do with the series moving forward.
