That… actually makes a lot of sense. The horn has to work in order so magic can come out.
Like Hotpants said, a lizard’s tail. If the horn breaks, they grow larger. Magic is still chaotic, but it’s still manageable.
Unicorns are really just giant geckos with their tails on their heads, when you think about it.

It’s halfway through. Or even one-third. What they did isn’t only move the break, but also give her a fucking spear instead of a horn.
Funniest part? They moved the break from the base of the horn to near the tip. So, you know, representation but only for the merely slightly maimed. Not for any of those gross freaks missing whole limbs.
