General Tempest Shadow was once a mercenary working for the bloodthirsty and seemingly unstoppable Storm King, but following a shocking defeat at the hooves of Lunar Imperial ground forces at the start of the North Zebrica War, she was impressed by the fighting prowess and the technological might of the new Equestrian state. This caused Tempest to defect to the Lunar Empire, offering her skills and knowledge of the Storm King’s forces in exchange for a position within the Lunar Army and for a prosthetic horn. The Empire accepted her offer, and Tempest proceeded to lead the charge against her former master, ensuring his fall.
 
Now, as a respected Army officer and friend of Empress Nightmare Moon, Tempest has found her place in an Equestria she thought had long abandoned her, proud to serve the Moon, the Princess, and the Nightmare!
