Original Description:
Finding out that all my proudest moments would be spent trying to put a smile on your face
For Scrapjack, it was a pretty sudden realization, probably because she isn’t the best at interpreting her own feelings. They were talking, Jack said something dumb, and Rot lost it. As she watched her best friend, who she adored more than anything, laughing uncontrollably because of something she had said, she knew that she wanted to spend the rest of her life chasing that laugh. She wanted to make Rot happy, make her smile, make her feel loved. Because Jack loved her. Maybe… maybe in a way that most friends didn’t. When she thought about her future, Rot was always there. She just couldn’t imagine a world without the yakicorn by her side.
Rotgut came to terms with it more slowly. It was a gradual thing, figuring out what she felt, why she felt it, and what it meant for them. She’d known Scrapjack had a bit of a crush on her, but had dismissed it as a silly, childish thing. Over time, though, it only grew. The moment that helped make everything a lot clearer seemed insignificant at the time. Rottie had mentioned that she was fond of plums and had loved eating them in Yakyakistan, and a few days later Jack had showed up with an entire plum cake, just for her. She wanted to give her something that would make her happy. Just because. Rot was able to accept that Jack… might actually love her. Just… because. And Rot loved her, too. More, and differently, than she’d ever loved anyone. She wanted to be with her forever, wanted to support her and keep her company and hold her and kiss her…
Fuck.
