Original Description:
It’s almost Nightmare Night actually. But everypony’s getting prepared, and… YIKES! GHOSTS!!! :o (Eek) They’re here early, and it looks like they’re having a swinging wake. And if that wasn’t enough, it appears like they’re from every time period in Equestrian history: Pre-Equestria, Ancient Somnambula or Anugypt, Ancient Coltic (or maybe Germaneic) tribe, the Dragon-Pony Wars, Medieval Times, and the Victorian Era. So there it looks Snowfall Frost and Merry are going through a stroll through town, while Octavia Melody and DJ PON-3’s ancestors making some old-timey music, though it probably sounds more like a haunting refrain. However, their concert seems to have captivated the attention of a guard from the Mighty Helm and a shrouded figure from the Middle Ages. The hunchbacked bell ringer of Hollow Shades a thousand moons ago may not seem to enjoy the festivities, but it’s better than doing nothing in death. A knight from the Dragon-Pony Wars and Queen Cleopatrot, on the other hoof, are definitely having a grand time tonight, along with both a gentlecolt from the Victorian Era and a Pre-Equestrian Pegasus. And I think that little foal might be Pony Casper! Yes sir, it’s not even Nightmare Night yet, and these grim, grinning ghosts have already come out to socialize.
On November, 24th last year, I wanted to do a mid-Halloween-Christmas project, and I thought I would do ghosts. After experimenting with the ghost effect and color scheme the Spirit of Hearth’s Warming Past had, I got started with a couple of pre-made vectors, these being most of the spectral characters you see here, except for Cleopatrot, the hunchback, the cloaked pony, the Mighty Helm Stallion, and Casper. I threw in a Nightmare Night carnvial background made by MLP-Silver-Quill. However, I thought about making a sort of Haunted Mansion themed project, and it would take place in the Castle Ruins, particularly the ballroom where the organ is, but since no background was made and close-up didn’t really seem to fit, I decided to put it all on hold. Ten months went by, and since Halloween/Nightmare Night is coming up, I thought about sticking to what I had, and bring in more characters. And for the fun of it, I decided to bring in a ponified Casper, since this IS ghost-themed. I also included some bats and a spider, to add detail to this spooky project.
I was almost tempted to include the pony Beetlejuice vector made by MLP-TrailGrazer, but since it was a private commission and with the download selection deactivated, never mind. Oh well, maybe it isn’t such a good idea of having that bio-exorcist at the party. He’d much rather scare everypony and get jiggy with any pretty filly he spots.
Now the ghost color scheme and effect I made may or may not be accurate. For those using Photoshop, first set the color picker to 231, 34, 47. Next, create a hue/saturation adjustment layer, select colorize, then change the saturation to 22 and the lightness to +37. Merge the adjustment layer with the vector of your choice. When adding the outer glow, change the color to white, leave the opacity at 75%, and adjust the size of the glow to 67. For the inner glow, change the color to white again, lower the opacity to 40%, switch the source of the glow from edge to center, and adjust the size all the way to 250 (however, if your vector is small or zoomed out, lower the size adjustment until you can see the edge of the glow within.
