Well, in the comment section on Deviantart, someone else asked the same thing and the author responded by saying Sludge just needed to beheated up before Tremor (Spike’s father, who’s breathing fire ar him) can “step on him like a bug”.

I couldn’t be anymore satisfied. Although I think Sludge deserves worse. Plus, if dragons can be immune to lava then I doubt fire would have any effect on Sludge.

Oh without a doubt. I hate him even more than Garble. This selfish asshole deserves some punishment for PRETENDING to be Spike’s father for his own selfish needs. And it doesn’t help when you realize Spike still doesn’t even know who his real parents are.
 
Imagine someone like if Scootaloo heard about this. She it would make her furious because it’s revealed that her parents are at least still alive and well. They just don’t get to see her often because they live so faraway. But since they never reveal who Spike’s true parents are. For all we know. They could be dead.
