This rating is for the MLP movie not the series. Your point that the pilot being not the most well received by some is relevant anyway beside that though!

simple explanation: the MLP fandom became a thing only when episode 2 was released (maybe sometime earlier) and the MLP series was already rated at that time.

Perhaps a factor. I think though that the MLP movie was in a wonky place:too large and aiming for the mainstream but really only getting too niche audiences (older ponyfans and actual target demo) and some critics just ravaged it just because no major player was involved that had to be pleased. Though what I am really interested is the critical consensus. It would be nice if we got a similar size sample for each of critics and preferably, a lot of the same critics/outlets which may not happen considering this is somewhat lower profile.

Ciaran and Derpy Hooves are the same people? No wonder. I’ve been threatened by both two accounts.

Because G5 is brand new and the G4 movie came out several years after the fandom had peaked and was in decline.

The truth about those boomers of 30, 40, 50 to 100 years who begin to criticize a children’s series that is directed to “LITTLE GIRLS!!!!” They look ultra ridiculous!
