Twilight had always been bad at magic, but never gives up and tries to prove herself. All her spells seem to backfire, and usually hurt someone (whether with good intentions or not) . The day Twilight got her cutie mark was the day she almost exploded into magic dust from exerting herself too much. Because of this, her parents worry about her and forbid her from doing magic. They also make her cover up her cutie mark because to them it looks like an explosion. In reality, her cutie mark is meant to be a shining crown.
