the dangerous noodle boi is in love and everybody knows it
i never really explained how Discord and Twi got together in my universe (because I love giving Somburst love XD) so here it is
(and yes, I’ve changed their designs again. i’ll probably continue doing so until the end of time honestly)
Discord is, as most villains are, an incredibly vain creature. he takes great pride in himself and his dissociation with those around him. much of his youth was spent alone and apart from social norms, so he isn’t all that good at social interaction at all since he was raised entirely improperly. when he wants something, he takes it. this mindset was carried over after his reformation and he could finally explore his romantic interests having settled down a little.
Twilight Sparkle had piqued his interest from the very beginning. she was intelligent, brave, beautiful, and organized. Discord was intrigued by her, especially after she ascended and he realized that she was his polar opposite, representation of harmony. he knew that he would someday have an opposite (most alicorns do), but he never thought he’d actually have much opportunity to interact with them. so he exploited his acquaintance-ship with Twilight to study her and get to know her.
well, that was his explanation, anyway.
but what he would never tell anyone in the history of ever is that he was actually ridiculously, incredibly, undoubtedly infatuated with her. Cadence herself would get a headache from how much he loved her (she found it highly amusing).
unfortunately, this love was very one-sided. Twilight was nothing more than his acquaintance. at most, she’d call him a friend to spare his feelings. she rather disliked him and his self-centered personality.
but Discord expected reciprocation. he was always under the impression that everyone loved him. as the master of chaos, he loves nothing more than entertaining himself, and therefore entertaining everyone else when he learned about the beauty of friendship. the rest of the mane six have a rather excellent relationship with him. why didn’t Twilight? why didn’t she love him?! his confusion only contributed to his obsessiveness. he wasn’t pushing himself onto her, he was just genuinely confused as to why she disliked him.
he was dumbfounded and heartbroken when Fluttershy reluctantly told him that Twilight didn’t like him. but instead of allowing it to get the better of him, he just worked harder to impress and entertain her. by following her everywhere. again, he wasn’t pushy. he never forced himself on her or brainwashed her, nothing of the sort. he hardly even used his magic around her, let alone on her. instead he just silently followed her, mimicked her routines, made light conversation with her when she allowed it, helped her when she needed it, and stood back like a creepy statue when she didn’t. she was incredibly confused. but in her eyes, this was Discord finally realizing how selfish he was and working to better himself (she was incredibly oblivious to his possessiveness over her).
this continued for quite some time. Twilight came to see Discord as something of a second Spike; an assistant tagging along with her adventures. she was fond of him. friendzoning him, much to his dismay.
Cadence finally involved herself (she’d been laughing her ass off at Discord’s shenanigans for quite some time) and outright told Twilight that he loved her, point blank. and she found, much to Twilight’s surprise, that that love was finally mutual.
they never dated, never went out, never officially became a couple. but suddenly they were engaged, and then married. and all is well.
it can still be said that Discord is still obsessed with Twilight. he is way, wayyy too protective of her at times, and still follows her everywhere when she allows it. but after their marriage, he relaxed infinitely. sometimes when they have minor arguments he has his doubts. but that’s always how they bounce back, with Twilight laughing and comforting him. he is actually a very emotionally fragile creature.
