Not everyone who's drawn to FoE likes it because of that. I personally really enjoy it because of the world, of the idea of magic and technology being extremely well integrated with each other.
Most people I talk to that like it also don't really talk about the juxtaposition that much.
Plus I'm a self-admitted edgelord, I love grimdark stuff regardless of if it's mlp or not (though again, I really like the mlp universe in general). I love reading shit that makes me feel bad at first, then glad when I think back to how good my life is in comparison-~~tho I guess I moderate a horse booru on the internet for free, so I guess I'm not exactly living the high life-

Funnily enough, I kinda regret setting my fic in the FoE universe, simply because any post-apocalyptic world would have worked, and I'm not really using the existing lore or building on it.
