is it a bird? a plane? NO RAINBOW DASH!!!
 
yes, rainbow is a harpy! i was inspired by the rune pony species (i made harpies there sooo xD)  
the backstory is a but shorter than twilight’s as rainbow lives a fairly simple life.

Rainbow’s backstory:
 
Born in the high mountains of Mt. Everhoof, rainbow dash was a very energetic filly. She was never able to sit still and was a energetic demon who would race all all around the mountain.
 
When she got older and more independent it was time to leave the nest.  
All the harpies on Mt. Everhoof would eventually leave and go out to explore the world. They can return whenever they desire.
 
When she arrived to a place she liked she made herself a home in a cave off to the side of the town. it was high enough where it was the perfect temperature for her.  
sometimes during the summer she will have to moult or pluck some feathers out to cool off.
