Diminishing Returns (-1) affects your roll. You roll an 18 -1 (required 10). Success!
Unable to pass up this opportunity, you quietly tell the others that you can’t leave without your items, and that you’ll catch up with them outside.
You then split up from the group, and after making sure that no patrol is coming nor looking your way, you climb the nearest ladder down to a small deck below. A short staircase leads you further down to the bridge’s level, where you get a clear sight of its anchors.
With the depths of the cavern growing darker by the minute, you sneak up to the bridge, and slowly begin to make your way across. The old ropes and planks creak under your weight, drowned out by the wailing of the wind passing through the stalactites above, and the crashing of the waves in the abyss below.
After being out in the open for what feels like forever, you somehow manage to reach the treasure trove undetected. Relieved to find the shanty’s wooden door unlocked, you quickly slip inside, and carefully shut it behind you.
As the door closes, the windowless room is plunged into disorienting darkness. You rummage blindly through your sidereal bag for something that can help you see, and pull out what feels like a glow stick.
You tentatively give it a little shake, and soon, a dim green light reveals piles and piles of haphazardly hoarded loot; from stacks of bits and gemstones of all kinds to crates of fabrics and kegs of liquor, all of it gathering dust.
Too honest to consider stealing even from thieves, you instead focus on searching for your party’s lost items. It takes you nothing short of a moment to navigate this mess, let alone find anything in it, but in the end, you luckily stumble upon everything you came here for.
You get 2 Blue Chokers of Aquatic Respiration, Moonflower’s Magic Satchel, Necklace Pouch, and Star Hairpin!
Now ready to leave, you peek out of the door, and begin to plan your escape. As you watch the patrols, you spot the lantern of one of the guards making its way toward the door to the dungeon. It might not be long before they realize that you’ve gone missing.
