You ask Gerwalta about teaching you spear fighting, and offer to teach her what you know about sword fighting in return.
Gerwalta: “In case you didn’t notice, griffons and ponies don’t handle weapons the same way. I can still teach you the nuts and bolts of spear fighting, though. Just take it as your reward for putting up a good fight.”
You agree, and grab a foam spear from the nearby weapon rack. You begin to follow Gerwalta’s instructions, and within a few minutes of practising, she teaches you about basic spear stances and techniques.
