As Rarity rose through the ranks of high society and her reputation as not only an incredible fashion designer, but one of the founding members of the Council of Friendship at Twilight Castle and a popular teacher at the School of Friendship, She caught the eye of many Equestrian elites. Even Duke Blueblood’s interest in her grew and he began being as princely as possible towards her, enough so that Rarity believed he had changed and her interest in him was rekindled. They had a secret relationship for about a year, during which Rarity became pregnant.
 
Their relationship was quickly strained and they decided that once the baby was born, Rarity would leave it with Blueblood as his heir and revoke all her rights to it, and Blueblood would financially compensate her in order to keep her quiet. Only the Canterlot princesses knew about the affair. After the foal was born and Rarity had left, Blueblood named him Amour out of spite and proceeded to dump the child on nannies and tutors for most of his young life and enforce high society standards and practices onto his son.
 
Amour hated high society and aristocratic ponies, and loathed going to parties and operas and dinners. His father dragged him to many events only to abandon him the second they got there to be tittered over by a gaggle of mares, many of whom cared more about his money and status than the fact that Blueblood was on his fourth glass of wine in the past hour.
 
Amour can physically feel the true emotions and intent of those around him. He can see through even the most convincing facade. When he was young he would often be overcome by all the ill-will and greed surrounding him in high society. He could tell when someone’s words and intentions towards him and others were true, and he clung desperately to the few ponies who actually respected and cared for him.
