I think the difference here is FiM adapted the way modern tech works to fit the world. Pipp has a phone indistinguishable from a phone in reality, while Button’s arcade cabinet is outside, Vinyl’s speakers are stylized with unrealistic shapes, and the helicopter has big pink heart theme to it.  
It’s the same reason Pony Life got criticism, they had modern and fairly realistic tech in an otherwise cartoony fantasy world.
