ah. My guess was an old British Sterling SMG, and that’s what Lucas’s prop people turned into the E-11s.
 
The magazine is horizontal, by the way, inserted in the side facing away from the viewer.

This gun is confusing. It looks like it’s supposed to be auto/semi-auto, but there’s no magazine. The barrel is also extremely short; does this shoot pistol ammo? ’cause the only option I could see would be that the magazine is inside the stock, and only pistol rounds would be short enough to fit in there.  
But if it uses pistol ammunition… why does it have a scope?
