another patreon dump, most of this stuff is from december.
i did watch some Twilight Zone while drawing these btw

Princess wave! Every princess gotta have one
My design for Twilight Sparkle herself! She has her regular mane (I replaced the dark purple stripe with yellow, I think it looks nice) but the big wavey thing behind her isn’t actually hair…I really need to do a lore piece on the princess hair mana energy beings but yeah. Basically the magic is stored in this big mass of energy that’s attached to the princesses. It’s made of pure magical energy and has a mind of its own to some extent. Her wings also have a slight sparkle to them since they were magically granted to her.
I gave her a fun prophetic cutie mark so everyone knows she’s the special chosen one. The colors represent her friends!
The spiraling marking on her horn is said to be the sign of powerful magic in a unicorn, though in reality it’s just a marking like any other.
Twi is also part bat pony, through her father Nightlight’s side.
Tempest protecting her wifey…I wanted to headcanon Twilight as one of the tallest of the six (maybe the tallest?) post-ascension…but I also like the Twi/Tempest height different they had in the movie. A dilemma…until I realized I can just make Tempest frickin’ HUGE. She’s got a mixed earth pony/unicorn (saddle arabian) lineage, two of the biggest pony breeds. After the events of the movie, Twilight decided to enlist this big hunk of horse as her guard against any future threats. Romance ensues…Twilight marrying a former threat against Equestria was probably a pretty huge scandal, but as the officially named heir to the Equestrian throne nobody says anything to her face about it. Once Twilight takes the throne Tempest is her official guard and consort. I like to think that sort of relationship becomes common for rulers during the hundreds/thousands of years Twilight is immortal ruler. Long after Tempest has died their epic love story is still told and glorified like an ancient legend…something that probably makes Twilight smile when she’s not thinking about what a curse her immortality has become now that everyone she’s ever loved has died. TWILIGHT SPARKLE SAD IMMORTALITY MOMENTS.
As for Tempest: She doesn’t have a cutie mark, only trauma and emotional scars. Her magic is chaotic and scary, perfect for a guard pony. Stay away from her tiny wife (who is larger than the majority of Equestria’s citizens) she is very protective. She knows how dangerous the world can be…
Twilight Sparkle’s well-meaning but imperfect parents. Nightlight is half bat pony, half unicorn (Saddle Arabian unicorn specifically). His main job/talent is researching star-based magic, but one of his biggest passions is astronomy. Twilight Velvet comes from a well known, wealthy Saddle Arabian unicorn family. Her talent is making clothing with magical properties, like an invisibility cloak or shoes that let you walk on water. I’d imagine Velvet’s parents were not too thrilled she decided to hook up with a middle-class half bat pony instead of an old-money suitor, but they got over that quick when her son married a princess and all but begged for forgiveness when Twilight was crowned.

I just realized I didn’t include anything on Twilight’s brother Shining Armor but he’s also there. I’ll probably maybe someday include him on a post but he’s basically the same as canon in my AU, married to Cadence, prince of the Crystal Empire, father of Flurry Heart, ect. He’s not that interesting to me so I probably won’t mess with him much
I almost included some Spike art up on my patreon but decided not to and keep that for it’s own future post on…dragons? Spike? who knows
maybe I’ll go into Twilight n Tempest’s backstories one day too. every day is a winding road
