Original Description:
Name: Midnight Stardust
Parents: Sunburst & Starlight Glimmer
Element of Harmony: Magic
Cutie Mark/Special Talent: A wishing star, because she often spent her time wishing things to be different, until she realized that a star would never fulfill that wish; it was up to her to make her own destiny. This is me trying to restrain myself from ranting about how muuuch I hate that Starlight Glimmer plotline. I mean, honestly, she enslaved an entire village, nearly destroyed Equestria and basically tried to kill Twilight, but as a punishment she got to move into a castle and got a new set of friends. That was some major bullshit. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good villain-redemption-story as much as the next gal, but this was entirely too rushed; she should have been punished first before we got around to the redemption. Ooops, restraining myself didn’t work again…
Anyway, so, I can’t believe everyone just forgave Starlight because she said sorry with those big, sad eyes. There have to be ponies with some common sense who still see her as a terrorist. And her daughter Midnight Stardust has suffered from that all her life. After all, her mother nearly destroyed the world, but instead of a punishment she got to be a princess’ apprentice and got to live with the beloved Princess Twilight. As a filly, she often had to endure the distaste some of the parents had projected onto their own offsprings. So she very often wished she wasn’t her mother’s daughter.
She knows Starlight Glimmer has changed and she knows her mother still feels guilty about everything, but Midnight can’t really help herself sometimes. It’s a good thing she has a wise and kind mentor in Twilight Sparkle. The first time someone had bullied her about her mother, Midnight came running to Twilight, a crying and sobbing mess, and Twilight had told her what had happened back then and why it had happened; Twilight also warned her very firmly that she could not let rejection get to her in the same way her mother had back then. She had to keep fighting for her own happiness.
And that’s exactly what Midnight does. She studies very hard under Twilight’s guidance to become a great unicorn and never make the same mistakes others have made - she learns not just from her mother’s mistakes, but also from Trixie and Sunset, seeing as in my universe Twilight is married to those two and I also love the idea of the Starlight-Trixie-bff-thing. So Midnight studies magic in a way none of them ever had, which is why she becomes the bearer of the Element of Magic, making her the leader of the new Mane Six.
Which also freaks her out. Like, a lot. So Twilight makes her do what Celestia had made Twilight do all those years ago; Midnight sends Twilight letters about her progresses.
Aside from Twilight, Midnight’s greatest influence and supporter is Strawberry Milkshake, her best friend. Strawberry is the greatest listener and advise-giver in all of Equestria, according to Midnight, and Strawberry already had to listen to quite a few meltdowns over the years.
Midnight’s most recent meltdown-problem? She has the biggest crush possible on Princess Moonlight Selenia, the daughter of Twilight. Her mentor’s daughter! And a princess! How in the world is Midnight ever supposed to make Moonlight even notice her?! –And yes, Midnight is also a slightly hysteric drama queen.
