As time went by, they discovered that these Elements showed a great deal of their power when they were in contact with magical harmony mixed in with positive feelings such as loyalty, kindness, etc. Through them, they were able to use their magic to bring complete harmony to all the corners of Zefiro and begin a new cycle of peace and prosperity.
Star Swirl asked the young empress to return the elements now that they’d reached their final purpose, and, being so powerful and unstable, did not see the continual use of them convenient. Twilight believed the complete opposite however, obsessing herself with said Elements as she saw a great potential use for them, leading them both to go their opposite ways and Twilight breaking her promise.
Twilight did not only distance herself from Star Swirl, but from all the world. Leaving Celestia in charge of the kingdom since it was now much more peaceful and easy to govern.
One night, Twilight told her mate she thought she found a way to control them completely; that she had created a dark spell that would combine her spirit with the Elements and finally would have complete control.
Celestia, fearing for her mate’s health upon seeing her obsession, asked her not to do it and to abandon her project, something that Twilight refused and generated many arguments between the two. The sun princess, desperate, stole the elements from Twilight’s lab and hid them on the castle’s dungeon.
…
After some time, everything became calmer between them both. Twilight had taken up a less ambitious new project.
Twilight focused on simpler magic around spells and potions, which, in their majority, were used to help the land of Equestria. But among all her magical discoveries, she was able to form a retrospection spell, a spell that using magic with natural elements, formed a white potion that finally allowed her to see where Celestia had hidden the elements.
On that night, she left the castle and took the elements with her, leaving behind a note saying she would be back in a few days.
She found a cave between the trees near her kingdom in which she began to live as a hermit in order to finalize her project.
She created the spell that fused her spirit with the elements, but after having done so, she quickly began to grow sick. She tried to return to the castle on the next day but couldn’t even get up or communicate telepathically. She was very weak and began to perish without even being able to tell her beloved anything.
On the last moments of her life, she had a vision that her spell had worked and that the elements had combined with her successfully. She herself had transmuted her body thanks to her purple-type magic and now it was disintegrating and slowly transforming into a new element. The element of magic.
Twilight never dreamed of such unfolding of events.
With the union of her magic and the elements, the tree of harmony grew forth, shining brightly towards the sky and breaking the cave’s ceiling as it was seen all through the sky. This grabbed the attention of the entire kingdom, and when Celestia went to investigate what happened on that cave, she found Twilight’s belongings along with a crystal tree with the elements she had hidden each on a branch and another one at the center, one that did not exist before… One with Twilight’s cutie mark.
A bad feeling ran through her body and it broke through with a bitter cry, believing herself condemned to loneliness for the rest of her immortal life.
That’s the last she ever heard of Twilight on those days.
