The cutie mark is the Gye Nyame, a tribal symbol that roughly translated means “No one lives who saw the beginning and none but God shall live to see the end”. Some have speculated that it’s an abstraction of a barred spiral galaxy, but how a native African tribe without telescopes can know what a barred spiral galaxy looks like is beyond me.
