Back in March, I made a post about a puppet I was attempting to build in Blender. While I still think it would be possible to make a fully 3D puppet that looks reasonably show-accurate, I have abandoned that project because my puppet was becoming far too rigid. Instead, I will transition back to Flash and use the 3D puppet only as a reference. In fact, I used the 3D puppet a lot while creating this Twilight puppet and tried to strike a good balance between show-accuracy and “3D-accuracy.”
While making this, I studied screenshots of the show to try to deduce how their puppets are arranged. I have been learning better workflows to improve my productivity, specifically targeting the pain points I mentioned in my post back in March. I watched various tutorials by YouTubers and discovered some very useful Flash extensions along the way. I even plan on writing one of my own extensions.
I have not decided whether I will make any animations using this puppet in it’s “show-like” form. I do plan to modify the puppet to make it consistent with my own art style and animate the modified puppet.
