Another ref! Obsidian won in the poll, so I decided I would do this cutie as soon as possible! I should probably quickly explain, why I put the base edits there. These base edits are the first drafts, where I play around with colors and don’t really think of any lasting mane style, while when I do start drawing their bio, I actually give them an original mane and accessories. I put it there for you guys to see where the kiddos started! Just a small reminder that designing is a long process and that, if you don’t like anything about your first design, just keep trying!

Now, since we got that out of the way, let’s jump into the bio, shall we?

Full Name: Obsidian Mirror “Jackson” Pie

Nickname(s): Obsidian (common), Obsy (mothers)

Identity: Panromantic Demisexual pronoun indifferent person (does not care what pronouns are used, I will be using he/him in this bio, but there might be moments in the future, where Obsy will be called she or they!)

Special Talent: Alchemy.

Occupation: Student at Celestia’s School for Gifted Magicians (was renamed, as Equestria was getting more and more non-pony citizens)

Family: Starlight Glimmer (mama), Maud Pie (mom)

Personality: Obsidian Mirror, the only child of Starlight Glimmer and Maud Pie, used to be a very daring and achieving young foal. As the child of an amazing magic user, who herself saved the world, Obsidian always wanted to be the best he could be, so he could help as many creatures as he could and be someone who matters. Of course, after an accident with a powerful spell that left him horn-less, the young foal was, as you would expect, left with trauma. Nowadays, Obsidian is someone who likes to plan ahead and panics, whenever he finds himself in a surprising situation. Thinking on the spot is incredibly stressful for him. He can keep a conversation and actually very much enjoys being with other creatures! He likes saying his opinion, listening to others, and having friendly debates. Of course, with the monotone voice, he has gotten from his mom, creatures are often nervous about talking to him, as they are scared they are bothering him or he simply doesn’t care about what they are saying. It’s not true at all and Obsidian often apologizes, trying to give his voice any sort of emotion. Obsidian is also extremely hard working and studious, but he is also very forgetful if he gets into his “study sessions” and often forgets to eat when he should. Still, he is extremely kind and absolutely adores helping others. He might be scared of doing things without a plan and certainty that nothing bad will happen, but his dreams did not change at all. He still wants to help as many creatures as he can.

Other facts!
-He has a very dry sense of humor, which is something his cousin, Double Dare, absolutely adores. The two are close, even if they don’t see each other very often anymore, Double often sends him letters and rocks, that she has found, asking what they are and what they do. Obsidian absolutely adores receiving his letters and it shows, his replies are often 3-5 pages long.

-After the accident, Obsidian has never used his actual magic and prefers working with alchemy and potions. He is very gifted and the best student in his class. He doesn’t have many friends in the School for Gifted Magicians, as the students are all very achieving and ready to fight for their place at the top. Obsidian is not exactly someone, who tries to one-up others, and happily avoids his classmates at all costs. He never really enjoyed creatures who act like that. Of course, Obsidian can be competitive, but never so dangerous as the other students. He is respectful of his opponents. They are not. He much rather talks to the young librarian, who has been giving him tips for what books to read.

-Obsidian has a love for rocks and gemstones, just like his mom. He doesn’t exactly ramble, but if you do ask him, he will answer any question you have with as much information as he has, wanting to help you and overanalyzing anything, trying to explain as many things as possible. While that might sound annoying, he is really just trying to be helpful.

-He is great friends with Northern Lights, the son of Rarity and Trixie, as the two used to have playdates whenever Trixie and Starlight wanted to catch up. They actually get to see each other a lot! While Northern travels a lot, he likes to come to Canterlot, as he has his own place there. He visits Obsidian often, taking him out for a cup of coffee (Northern doesn’t exactly enjoy coffee, but he knows Obsidian couldn’t live without it).

-The accident I keep talking about is from a spell that backfired. As I said before, Obsidian was always an overachiever and also a very gifted foal. He could master any spell his mama taught him with ease and that slowly got into his head, making him try harder and harder spells whenever his moms weren’t looking. Of course, that soon backfired, and he had tried, and failed, one of the hardest spells he could find in his book. The magical energy that was needed for this spell was a lot and, while every young foal has a massive number of magical energy stored within them, their horns cannot handle much more than 10% of this magical energy, which is why they learn truly hard magical spells at age 12 and up. Some unicorns, like Twilight Sparkle, have horns that can handle those huge waves of power. But Obsidian was not one of them and the magic, quite literally, blown up in his face, leaving him with a shattered horn, scarred face and one blind eye. A lot of therapy was needed after the incident, which surprises noone.
