The changeling kingdom lived in perfect harmony with the ponies, especially since the union between Prince Pharynx and Princess Luna. The young changelings had, now, the possibility of going to study at the school of friendship, but also at the school of magic of Canterlot, that Twilight had opened for all species practicing magic.
 
“My parents enrolled me in magic school, one of the changelings told his friends, they think I’m the best at it !”
 
“I prefer the magic of friendship, replied another, that’s why I’m leaving tomorrow for Ponyville !”
 
The two changelings turned to their friends, sons of Luna and Pharynx.
 
“And you, Beetles ?” asked the more orange.
 
“My father wants me to have guards at the school in Equestria, he explained, in order to further my education and become the next leader of the guard.”
 
Beetles wanted to go to friendship school, but his dad wouldn’t. According to him, it was time that he became an adult and had arranged with the head of the guard to teach him all his knowledge ! The young prince left his friends and went home. His suitcase was ready, he was leaving at dawn. He looked out the window and wondered what his future would be like if he had been a simple changeling. He was forced to accept his responsibilities, when he did not want his title of prince.
 
The dawn came very quickly! Pharynx and Luna accompanied their son to the station, checking that he had forgotten nothing.
 
“Don’t forget to write to us !” asked his mother.
 
Beetles nodded and entered the train to Canterlot. After several hours, He finally arrived in the big city and was greeted by a griffin in his armour.
 
“You must be Prince Beetles, asked the creature, I am Gallus, Under-Chief of the Royal Guard, and I am in charge of bringing you to the castle.”
 
Beetles accepted with lead clogs and followed the griffin.
 
“Are you also a prince ?” he asked
 
“Of course not, replied Gallus, puzzled, why should I be ?”
 
“Well, explained Beetles, you are the deputy head of the royal guard, and besides, you are a griffin, Chief Shining Armor must have been forced by your parents to give you this job !”
 
Gallus exploded with laughter at the reflection of the young prince, who felt the discomfort mounted in him. After recovering his breath, he replied:
 
“If my parents came to talk to the chief, he would have been lucky, because I just don’t know them ! Know something new, in the Royal Guard, we have no favouritism, only the best. If I came to the rank of deputy chief, it is because I worked as much as others and with a lot of ambition and support from my friends, I managed to get into this position ! I may be the first griffin in the Royal Guard, but I was also the first griffin to study at the Princess Twilight Friendship School !”
 
Bettles listened attentively to Gallus and understood that he should work like the others, even though he was the son of Princess Luna and Prince Pharynx. They went up into the palace, where Princess Twilight and her brother were. Shining Armor advanced towards them, thanked Gallus and showed Beetles where he would spend his many training nights. Moving into the castle, they met a young Alicorne, with bright colors, recalling autumn.
 
“Who is it ?” asked the young recruit
 
“She is one of Princess Twilight’s students, replied her mentor, she was born in Alicorn and must learn all the obligations of a princess, in order to lead her own kingdom in a few years.”
 
Beetles felt less alone in understanding that this new princess had not chosen her status either and had to accept her obligations. He knew that he would see her again and that she might be the only one who understood him.
