Description

My very first multicolored acrylight!

The story behind the engraving
The road to a multicolored acrylight started with the work on self-made digit for an acrylic nixie clock [1]. But the nixy project turned into a new project. It tries to create a multicolored acrylight that shows a cute Luna and Celestia GIF (Link to the GIF). The plan was to have three colors (white, pink, blue) on three frames (left, middle, right). So in total nine successively edge-lit acrylic sheets. After I did some different (not working) designed iterations, I got finally the idea to mix the colored lights of two acrylight sheets. To this as well as my latest base design a prototype needed to be created. The result of this prototype is this Deviantart upload. The main project is currently on hiatus because of the pandemic and the creation of some more two-sided projects.

How the lighting works
The multicolored acrylight consists of two inside facing acrylic engravings. One is green edge-lit light and one red edge-lit light. The colored light is created on the respective engraving. Yellow is the addition of red and green light. This means that both sides are sinuously engraved.
