Description

Even though she’s only had the job for about a week now, Applejack has grown to rather enjoy her time serving as a volunteer lifeguard at the Canterlot Beach over her summer break. The atmosphere is relaxing, the people she meets on the job are all friendly and courtesy, and the whole experience gives the young farmer a chance to have some much-needed ‘alone time’ away from her friends and family. However, late one morning as she is walking towards her post at the lifeguard tower, Applejack is unexpectedly approached by a chipper young salesgirl about her age holding a perfume bottle with a mysterious lavender liquid inside it. When the teenage lifeguard asks about the bottle, the salesgirl cheerfully explains that it’s a perfume of her own invention called Forget-Me-Lots and that it can erase the memory of whomever smells it. Confused, Applejack asks how a perfume is supposed to wipe someone’s memory and the salesgirl happily explains that, using some tips she learned in her chemistry class the previous school year, she’s invented a formula that, once inhaled, overrides and alters the electrodes in the parts of the brain that control memory (including the hippocampus and cerebellum), causing the subject instant and total amnesia. Thinking that the blonde-haired girl needs a demonstration, the salesgirl begins spraying the perfume onto Applejack, causing a small lavender cloud to form around the farmgirl’s head. Surprised, Applejack tries to tell the girl to stop, but the more she inhales the flowery-scented perfume, the more dazed and disoriented she starts to become. Unbeknownst to her (but to the delight of the salesgirl), this is the result of the perfume wiping away all of Applejack’s memories, soon to leave the young lifeguard unable to recall a single thing about herself……

After about 6 minutes, the salesgirl stops spraying the perfume and the small cloud around her subject quickly dissipates, leaving a confused & heavily amnestic Applejack in its wake. By now, nearly all of the blonde-haired teen’s memories (even ones regarding her beloved family & friends) have been erased by the perfume, leaving her unable to remember anything pertaining to her identity. The only key memories that remain are the girl’s knowledge of how to walk and speak. Looking back at the salesgirl, Applejack asks if she knows who she is, to which the salesgirl replies by fibbing that Applejack is her employee and that she’s supposed to be unloading the rest of her merchandise and setting up her booth next to the lifeguard tower, pointing to the beach parking lot where she’s parked a minivan loaded with boxes of Forget-Me-Lots perfume. Although she is a bit unsure about this, Applejack decides to trust the salesgirl and quickly sprints off to unload the van. As she watches her ‘employee’ go, the salesgirl quietly muses to herself about how she’ll soon have the chance to try out her perfume on everyone at the beach and, eventually, all of Canterlot City………
