Backstory [TW: Abuse and attempted murder]: Dr. Archwire is probably one of my most-hated OCs that I have ever created (And in case you’re wondering, he’s actually MADE to be hated, not to mention he’s based off of two toxic people that I dislike IRL). His father was a famous orthodontist, so he wanted to follow his hoofsteps and be just like him. However, he suffered from narcissistic abuse from his mother, which really affected his personality and his mental state.

At school, he was admired for his helpfulness and kind behavior toward other ponies, yet he was also known as “The Trickster” because he liked to tease other ponies for fun. One of his victims was Grace. While he stood up for her when she was a blank flank, at the same time, he made fun of her being “too quiet.” Of course, it was hard for the two to ever get along, but it didn’t go too far yet, as they didn’t always interact with each other. However, while Grace thought that Archer was a good friend for standing up for her and thought that he was just playing tricks on her for fun, Archer made fun of her again unironically in a when she earned her cutie mark.

As Archer grew older, and he was close to being an orthodontist, the narcissistic abuse he suffered from his mother just got worse, just to the point where he snapped and became entitled and arrogant. Due to his anger issues, he would go out of his way to harass and ill-treat other ponies if they didn’t agree with him or his views. As an orthodontist, he would act kind and friendly to his new patients, but when his patients reported suffering from mental health/body image issues from wearing braces and told them that they needed to transition to prevent it from getting worse, he would scream at them and tell them to “get used to them.” He also tried to convince himself that maybe getting a girlfriend was a solution to his problems, so he tried all his best to get himself one. One pony that he had always admired, though, was Grace, because despite his teasing towards her, he also admired her for her looks. Of course, he would constantly police Grace on her choices and interests, make fun of her destiny, and even explode in rage in front of her. While Grace wanted to help him and convince him to listen to her, he refused to because of his narcissistic mother’s refusal to get him help. When Archer discovered that Grace was hurt by his actions, he would apologize to her and constantly claim that he would change (Even trying to give her a gift at some point), but Grace had enough and knew that it would take more than that to forgive him. So Archer decided that because of Grace’s bitter attitude towards him, he hated her and decided to kill her out of revenge.

On the day of the incident, Archer brought a pocket knife with him on his way to a cafe that Grace frequented. As he arrived, he made sure that his knife was sharp enough before he could take action. However, he was caught by the workers of the cafe just before he could hurt anyone. Instead of being punished, he fled from the scene, hoping to never be seen again. Fortunately, Grace was arrived at the cafe about an hour after the incident.

It is unknown what has happened to Dr. Archwire, and no one knows if he still does orthodontics or not. He hasn’t been seen since the cafe incident, which he is now infamous for, and many of his former patients have spoken out about the abuse they received from him. It’s even unclear if he will ever change or be forgiven for his wrongdoings.

Disclaimer: Just because I’m portraying a fictional orthodontist in a negative light, it doesn’t mean I’m demonizing or stereotyping all orthodontists as evil, and this is coming from someone who has actually been a victim of mental abuse from an actual orthodontist. The point of his character is to tell the audience that corrupt professionals, no matter what career they’re in, exist, and that professionalism shouldn’t excuse or prevent toxic behavior.

This took quite a while for me to write, mainly because writing up the character’s backstory was too emotional for me based on personal experiences. While the abuse that I went though in real life wasn’t as exaggerated as above, it was still very hard for me to go through because I ended up suffering from mental health and body image issues as a result of what happened. Just so you know, I’m someone who is prone to relapsing, even when it’s unrelated to situations like these at all. It should be worth mentioning that being free from a toxic environment doesn’t always mean your life will improve for the better, based on personal experiences. While I may no longer wear braces or be his patient, I still have a lot of healing to do because obviously the damage that has been done to me has mentally scarred me, and it will probably be like this for the rest of my life, even when I get the help for it.

So, I don’t know what else to say about this… I guess you are allowed to draw Archwire, or any of my OCs, but I don’t want people to think that I’m endorsing the idea of liking or supporting abusers and criminals, even if they’re fictional.

I hope you “enjoy,” and more art will come soon!
