Backstory: When Raven was very young, she had an interest in tickling. Not only because she enjoyed the sensation of it, but also because to her, it was a very fascinating phenomenon for anyone to experience. She started learning more about it by reading stories about tickling and such. However many ponies began to tease her for it. She was sensitive and emotionally hurt about it at first, but as she got older, she couldn’t care much about what other ponies thought about her. As she started learning about magic, she indirectly got revenge on her bullies by witnessing them getting tickled, much to her relief.
As Raven grew up, whenever she thought about certain ponies or fictional characters, especially the ones that she liked, she tried not to imagine them being tickled. However, her magic and psyche got the better of her as she usually ended up seeing her favorite ponies and characters tickled in reality, whether by witnessing, reading stories, or seeing fan art of it. There was even a rumor that if somepony ever saw Raven with their own eyes, they will fall victim to tickling, thus she was called “The Tickle Jinx.”
Although Raven felt awkward and embarrassed about those things, at least she wasn’t completely bothered by them. She eventually started learning about psychology and the psychological effects of tickling, and that was when Raven knew how to take the concept of consent very seriously. She believed that tickling in reality is acceptable as long as it’s consensual. Raven soon moved to Ponyville to work as a psychologist, but she still visited Canterlot sometimes for personal or emergency reasons.
During her time in Ponyville, Raven worked in the same counseling center that Grace worked at. She was Grace’s client at first when she admitted to her about her “tickle curses,” which they became friends after an incident in which Raven witnessed Grace getting tickled by her younger brother, Feather Dust, who was also Raven’s best friend. Although Raven and Feather went out on dates a few times, they never planned on being a couple forever and decided to be just friends, even though Feather Dust was polyamorous.
Despite Raven’s quirks, they are what make Raven happy with who she truly is. As long as her tickling obsession is healthy and not having a detrimental effect to her well-being, she’ll keep doing with what she loves. She even has a feather of a raven on her head as a symbol for what she loves.
