When Star-Swirl the Bearded was brought the prophecy of the foal born under the sun, he wasn’t expecting there to be two little fillies. However, the earth pony mother convinced Star-Swirl to take both, for she could not care for even one of them. So from there, he raised the two foals as his home and mentored them, Celestia following his every step, Luna trying to follow behind. It was no secret; Luna had always suspected that Star-Swirl favored Celestia
 
When the two fillies were presented to the ponies, most were worried about have a moon pony as a ruler, especially one that was so weak. However, the absolutely adored Celestia. Wherever she went they bowed, even when she was still just an earth pony, where she walked the ground was kissed, even in th dirt, and where she trained, it was off limits. It wasn’t the same for Luna, and this led to a sour and dull attitude, leading to the public disliking Luna. The jealously that stirred within her aloud access to the Nightmare, an old spirit that prays on the negative emotions of other creatures, and uses it for its own benefit. Of course, Luna was fooled; she had finally found a friend, a friend who had promise her her very own kingdom, where she didn’t have to live in her sisters shadow. Over the course of town, Luna starting giving more and more into the Nightmare, leading to strange behavior.
 
When Luna was gifted her horn, nopony, nopony, cheered. At first, Luna tried to give them perch to show her appreciation, for being gifted a horn in her early teens was an amazing feet. When they didn’t, she started to get angry, and demanded that they cheer, which only a handful of ponies did. Finally, the Nightmare slipped in, and her voice boomed abnormally, causing some of the ponies to gasp and shake, but most to erupt in cheers and hooves stomping against the ground. That night, Star-Swirled kept a close eye on Luna, especially since he could faintly hear Luna thanking somepony from inside her room.
 
The ponies would not deny that they loved Celestia more than her younger sister, and as she grew older, the jealously and anger only started to boil hotter and hotter until it erupted. At first, everything was quiet for a few minutes, but then a twisted, screeching laughter erupted from Lunas room, causing the walls to shake as she slammed the doors open. Nightmare Moon was Star-Swirls worst fear to come true, but Celesria was left to fend for herself, seeing as Star-Swirl had mysteriously disappeared. He fight lasted flr what seemed like forever, until Celestia finally used the Elements of Harmony to banish her sister to the moon.

A thousand years later, Luna is finally transformed back into her old self, thanks to Twilight and her new friends. Thankfully, such fear of Moon Ponies had gone down drastically, and seeing as most ponies thought that a nightmare Moon was as myth, nopony really knew who Luna was, not what she was like. Upon her arrival, Celestia burst into tears, and welcomed back her dear sister, ruling by her side, until their las today’s.
