Personality:  
Moonstone walks the line between two worlds as the daughter of poor rock farmers and as the student of the glorious Queen Luna. She’s a gothic girl in spirit, with a unique sense of style and an air of mystery about her, but she feels like an alien among other ponies. A huge pony-pleaser, especially towards her mentor, Moonstone would sacrifice just about anything for her approval and adoration. She often struggles in isolation with finding her sense of self and where she fits in, which can mess with her sanity and cut her up inside if she dwells on it too long. But, she reminds herself, what kind of fool would not let their true self shine?  
Relationships:  
While Moonstone doesn’t really fit in anywhere, the one pony who really understands her is her Mother Maud. Like her, Maud never fit in and still doesn’t, but she no longer minds. Moonstone envies that confidence and will take any advice Maud can give. Trixie is also very confident, though much more overtly. Regardless, like Maud, she supports Moonstone wholeheartedly.  
Queen Luna is the one pony Moonstone looks up to more than anything. Since she became her student, Moonstone has idolized her, always eager to please her. She cares deeply about being worthy of the honor she’s earned, especially for the mare she considers her third mother. Luna is proud of her student and how much she has done for both herself and others, knowing that in one way or another she’s destined for even greater things.  
Being in Canterlot Castle all the time has allowed Moonstone to get very close with Luna’s nephew, Velvet Shade. He may have a lot of suitors but she is the one who knows him best, having feelings for him based on far more than his looks. However, Moonstone tries to put those feelings aside to be a friend and confidant to him, helping him in his quest to find his father. Still, it’s be nice if he at least noticed she saw him as more than a friend.  
Of her extended family, Moonstone is quite close with her cousins Hawk Eye and Turquoise Edge. Having grown up with them closely, Moonstone has often been the one to help them (especially Hawk) in school and act as a mediator during their fights. While they usually work out their issues on their own nowadays, Moonstone still finds herself resolving the occasional dispute and acting as a confidant. She’s willing to do anything for her family so she doesn’t mind.

It is no surprise that the student of the night would have a nighttime-related cutie mark. Moonstone’s cutie mark comes from her expertise in magic, especially nighttime-related magic, which has only grown since she became Luna’s student. Also, bats are a common symbol of goth culture, representing her unique style of self-expression.
