Personality:  
As the child of two very powerful unicorns, Shining Star has dedicated his life to being just as powerful as them from a very young age. Rather than go outside and play like most foals his age, Star prefers to stay inside and study all day. Despite his parents’ coaxing for him to make friends, Star is a loner and his only real friend is his mentor, Flurry Heart. Star is not used to sharing or not getting his way as an antisocial only child, so he can get pretty selfish and indignant over any instance where he has to compromise. Still, Star is very well-educated and organized for a colt his age, putting him on track for a bright future. If only he would make friends to share it with.  
Relationships:  
Since he’s their only child, Star has always gotten his parents’ undivided attention, which comes as a blessing and a curse to him. On one hand, they have always been there to pass on their magical wisdom and help him in his studies, which he appreciates. However, they also constantly bug him about getting out and making friends, which makes him wish they had other things to do so they would leave him alone.  
Although he has no siblings, Flurry Heart is like a big sister to Star. His Crystaller, mentor, and only friend, she has always been there for him. She is one of the few ponies he genuinely enjoys spending time with, but lately her attention has been divided by her husband and her plans to have a foal. Star doesn’t want to share her…  
On their trips to Ponyville, Starlight Glimmer often tries to get Star to socialize by setting him up to play with the local foals. One filly in particular is Cream Jade: whimsical, sociable, and pretty much the opposite of Star. Frankly, he doesn’t care much for her despite her massive crush on him, but makes small talk with her to appease her and his mother. But maybe he’ll come to enjoy her company more than he thinks.

With a geometrical star on his flank in a similar pattern to his parents’, Shining Star is on track to become just as skilled and knowledgeable as them. Hence his name, they always knew he was destined to become a shining star. What he doesn’t seem to realize is how much brighter he could shine with some friends around.
