Name: Dust Bunny
Nickname(s): -
Species/Gender: Hinny (Donkey-Earth pony)/Female
Mark/Talent: -
Personality: Positive, very outgoing. Not the brightest unless we’re talking about animals. Huge nerd.
Important relationships:
Edith (Mom): Very strained. They love each other, but it seems like they always end up fighting nowadays.

History:
Dust Bunny’s mom was quite young when she got pregnant; she’d just finished secondary school (“high school”) when she found out. Unfortunently, she couldn’t actually contact the father as he’d suddenly broke up with her and left right before graduation. She tried to find him, but it seemed like his family had just vanished off of the face of the earth. So she eventually gave up with a huff. Fine. This was now her baby and if the dad had wanted to meet it he could have left some kind of information of where he was going or look her up himself.

So she was a single parent. Well, her family helped quite a lot in the beginning –but after a year of living with them, she went to university and a student apartment, raising Bunny mostly alone as she got her degree. One of Bunny’s first memory is drawing on some scrap parchment as Edith studied in the library.

Bunny’s childhood was fairly happy, with her mom, grandparents and aunts/uncles, friends and school. She was a weird kid, but so were many of her friends, so it didn’t really cause any issues. She was a bit confused and wanted to know more about her dad, but generally just accepted it when Edie didn’t want to talk about it. She also had a period of wanting Edie to find someone else to date -Bunny’d heard a bunch of good stuff from her friends about step-parents- but Edie shut that down as well. It was just the two of them for most of Bunny’s childhood.

Then her life changed when she found a baby skvader in a ditch. She became obsessed with taking care of it, and Edie happily let her, believeing it to be a good way of teaching Bunny about responisbility and such. It did, and Bunny spent hours and hours researching the skvader -who she named Monster- and magifauna in general. She got to be practically an expert on the subject.

Including the laws regarding it. Especially including how illegal it was to keep magifauna as pets without a license. She was wrecked with guilt, until as a teen she decided the only right descision to do was to turn herself in. Except, she was a minor –so her mom got arrested instead. Oops.

It wasn’t the end of the world; her mom just had to pay a fine and do some community service at an animal shelter and Bunny got classes payed for by the crown to get an actual license. But it was quite reputationally damaging for Edith and did affect her work some. Let’s just say, Bunny and Edith’s relationship got quite strained after this. Even after Bunny moved out, it took a long time until almost every conversation where Monster was mentioned in any way didn’t just devolve into an argument.

As an adult, Bunny still has no cutie mark. And while it is more common for hinnies and mules get theirs later in life -if they get one that is- Bunny’s fairly certain she would have gotten it at this point if it was ment for her. She’s not terribly torn up about it though; she knows what she wants to do with her life regardless, no magical symbol necessary. She’s planning on running an animal rescue focusing on magical creatures, and she’s gonna have the best one ever. She just needs to… figure out how to actually start that.

Trivia:
The future founder and co-owner of Magifaunia, alongside Kinyume.

While she has no idea who her father is, we do. I did not add her bio-dad and his family in her “important relationships” since she does not know about them at the start of the story.

Her idea of a romantic evening is going out into the woods to stare at animal tracks and dung. Dating is for finding someone who’d like to join her in cleaning up after some animal she’s caring for, and marriage exists for the purpose of aquiring legal access to any cool animals the other person may own. She’s not the most romantically inclined. But if someone were to share her interests and actually enthusiastically connect with her over them… then she’d probably have no idea what to do. Probably awkwardly try to follow a guide she’d look up in a library on how to flirt for beginners.

Used to be quite bad at caring for animals actually –her loud and strong reactions didn’t go over well with most creatures. So she had to learn to take thing slower, quieter, less intense… most ponies nowadays are quite shocked to se her go from happily bouncing and chattering with them at a mile-a-minute, to suddently go quiet and calm as soon as she’s in the prescence of an animal.

Compared to her family, she is small. Donkeys are larger than ponies, and she inherited her height from her dad.

She’s very intelligent at very specific subjects. Ask her almost anything about any magical animal and she can tell it to you. Ask her to calculate the feed required for a specific menagerie, and she’ll hand you back a carefully annotated spreadsheet with several optional budgets, taking into account the weather during the year, the possible births/deaths of the animals, the harvests during previous years and their effect on the market, etc. But ask her who the villain is in a kids mystery book and she’ll have to read to the end and is suprised at the answer.

Being part donkey and part earth pony, one aspect of her magic allows her to survive and shrug off a lot that would make other people keel over. She’s not the strongest, nor the fastest, but if there was no food nor water available she’d be among the last one standing. Put her in a race, and she’d get to the end eventually no matter the distance. Illnesses that makes other creatures have to spend time in the hospital are like a mild cold to her. She’s resilient. This is very good, because she often gets caught up in her work and forgets to do stuff like… drink. For several days. But rather than fainting, she just gets a headache and a sore throat.
