Knock, knock, knock!
“Uncle First Base!” Dusk exclaimed, immediately swinging the door open. “You’re here!”
“Hey Dusk!” First Base brought the colt in for a light noogie. “Of course I am! I wouldn’t miss this for the world!”
Dusk grinned, bidding farewell to his mother and trotting out by his uncle’s side. “What are we going to do today, Uncle?”
“I figured I’d let you decide that, kiddo,” First Base winked. “Was there something you wanted to do?”
The unicorn reached into his saddlebags, pulling out a few sheets of paper. “Well, I was thinking we could make some origami boats and sail them down the river! Though I know you’re not into arts and crafts…”
“Nah, that sounds fun!” First Base assured. “Anything to spend time with my favorite nephew. But you might have to teach me how to do that fancy paper thing before I mess it up.” Both of them got a good chuckle out of this.
“Sure! I’ll teach you everything!”
“And then we can go out for ice cream if ya want! What was that flavor you liked?”
“Cookie dough!” Dusk answered. “And yeah! I’d love that!”
“Alright!” First Base smiled. “Now you lead the way!”
Dusk trotted ahead, his uncle right behind him as they made their way towards the river. This was exactly what he’d always wanted to do with his dad, but even if he never could, his uncle was always there. How he wished his dad could join them too—but now wasn’t the time to think about that. This was his day of fun and he was going to relish it!
