From left to right: Treize Khushrenada, in and out of uniform (as they all are) . I based his looks on Fancy Pants from MLP:FIM because they’re both aristocracy, and Fancy Pants has a similar mane-style to Treize’s human hair. I get the feeling Treize is keeping some grateful hair-gel store in business. His cutie-mark is less obviously martial than the others, but that was on purpose. It’s supposed to invoke medieval heraldry, indicating both an old-world aristocratic lineage, as well as the more modern family crests that are still occasionally in use. Also, roses seem to be a symbolic thing for him. He started out as an earth pony, being staunchly earth-born, but pointed out that unicorns tend toward the aristocratic, and Treize is a toff, so I agree that this fits him.
Colonel/Lady Une ended up as an earth pony, given her loyalty to and affiliation with OZ and Treize. I kind of had this idea that every pony “race” is represented both in earth and in the space colonies, but unicorns and earth ponies dominate the planet, while pegasi dominate the colonies. Une has a title, but she doesn’t seem as high-ranking as Treize, and earth pony just fit, somehow. She has two personalities, which I reflected in her appearance in and out of uniform. Even her cutie-mark has a bit of a split-personality. There’s the sword, and then these two pink frilly wooshy things, which hint at her more peaceful, feminine, Lady Une side.
Zechs Merquise/Milliardo Peacecraft is another sort-of split personality thing, but not like Une. It’s more like he plays two parts, one the masked Colonel for OZ, the other the son and heir to a pacifist nation. His cutie mark makes reference to the Peacecraft lineage (olive branch) , but there’s also a red and gold star shape which hints toward his military side. Unlike Treize, Zechs would hide his telltale cutie-mark under his uniform. Like Une he has strong ties to earth, so I made him an earth pony.
Lucrezia Noin ended up being a pegasus, partly because I kind of liked the idea of an earth pony/pegasus romance, but also because there seemed to be some debate on whether or not she was really born on earth or in the colonies. I heartily dislike Frozen Teardrop, and I think that’s where the notion came from that Noin is from the colonies, but whatever. That’s one thing from FT I don’t mind. Also, it’s a bit of a nod to her later loyalty to the gundam pilots, who all ended up being pegasi. I chose the Sanc Kingdom uniform for no other reason than I wanted to do something different than the OZ attire (and I think those are my favorite uniforms anyhow. ) Noin’s cutie-mark is pretty self-explanatory; crossed swords and a star. Find your own symbolism. You might also notice that her color scheme and Zechs’ are gold and silver, respectively. I don’t know why, it just happened, and now I can’t un-see it.
Anyhoo, thanks to for commissioning me, especially because PONIES.
