Grubber was once the right-hand-hedgehog to Commander Tempest, leader of the Storm King’s armies. He was the Spike to her Twilight, except with less love and understanding. It was his job to make sure the Storm Beasts in the army were doing their jobs - guarding the King’s fortress, preventing prisoners from escaping, scouting new territories to invade, etc. - and in turn, report all of this back to Commander Tempest Shadow.
 
Grubber’s family and people were invaded by the Storm King many years ago, in search of a powerful relic hidden below the earth. The entire underground city was destroyed in the chaos, and Grubb’s family fled, accidentally leaving the young hoglet behind in the rush. A newly appointed Commander Tempest took pity on the boy (though she would deny it for years afterward), and offered him the chance to be her second-in-command. With no where else to go, he took it.
 
 
Grubber and Spike had (or depending on who you ask, have) a rivalry about who was the best assistant. During their teen years the two would constantly try to one-up each other by being overly-helpful to either Twilight or Tempest. They even had a little fight over who would be the ring bearer at Twi & Tempest’s wedding. Both Spike and Grubber have grown up though, and their intense rivalry has (mostly) died down. Now they’re no more competative with each other than two siblings - which may or may not be a good thing considering the Sparkle family’s track record.
 
 
Several years and a few friendship lessons later, Grubber has grown quite a bit since his days under the rule of the Storm King - both emotionally and physically. He stands around the sam height as the average mare, and has chilled out considerably. Nowadays Grubb resides with the rest of the Sparkle Family in Ponyville castle, along with Twilight, Tempest, B.B., Spike, Gabby, and Motley. During busy holiday seasons he likes to help out the Cakes by doing deliveries alongside Pound Cake, and the rest of the year he either helps out in the castle library or does odd jobs around town. He’s a popular counselor at the Cutie Mark Camp.
 
 
Grubber’s interests include rock music, video games, edgy comic books, digging holes in the ground, baked goods, and sometimes dyeing his hair.
