Description

So, I love dragons. like a lot. and despite that and how much I love MLP too, I never made a dragon sona for that world. so I decided to change it! I’ve always seen myself as a black dragon person, but I didn’t wanna make him just in shades of grey, so gave him a bit of purple, I think works pretty well.

Also, despite no one asking, here’s my headcanon for dragons in MLP:

“Out of all the sentient races in the world of Equestria, there’s little doubt that dragons are the most powerful one in terms of individual might.

Dragons are a reptilian looking race native to the east of Equestria, from the volcanic area known as the Dragon Lands. Despite their reptilian appereance, dragons are actually warm-blooded, and are not related with reptilian races at all.

The most noticiable trait of the dragons is their size. They can grow to gargantuan sizes, far larger than any other sentient race. in fact, while they are bipedal during their youth, they grow so large they are eventually forced into a quadrupedal stance in order to support their weight.

The reason why they can grow to such dimensions has to do with their unique biology. Unlike almost any other race, dragons do not have a limited lifespan. They have what is known as biological inmortality. As long as they are not killed or fall to sickness, a dragon can theoretically live forever. The older a dragon is, the larger and stronger it’ll be. While their growth slows down over time, it never fully stops, so the oldest of dragons can be as large as entire mountains.

Adult dragons are incredibly solitary, rarely having contact with others, specially other dragons. on the other hand, juvenile dragons are far more social, and tend to group up in societies, lead by an individual known as the dragon lord. This lost of social interest with age has to do with their reproduction. While dragons can live for thousands upon thousands of years, they can only mate during their first couple of centuries. Dragon eggs are incredibly fragile, and eventually females grow too large to be able to reliably lay eggs, often these breaking while inside the mother by the stregnth of her internal muscles. As such, dragons over 200 years of age slowly lose interest to socialise with other dragons.

Dragons are not particularly good parents. In fact, very weirdly will they take care of their young, often leaving the eggs to hatch on their own. Luckily for the newborn wyrmlings, dragons are able to pass knowledge biologically from parent to child. a few hours after being born, a dragon will know how to walk and speak draconic. However, wyrmlings are still really weak creatures, and the protection that the juvenile dragons give them is minimal, so most of them wont reach adulthood. Dragons are born without wings, these growing when becoming an adolescent in a process known as “Molting”.

During their life, Dragons will aquire two diferent names. The first one is usually one chosen by themselfs when they are young. They tend to be simple words, like “Thorn”, “Ash” or “Spike”. The second name comes when the dragon aquires a certain reputation, and it describes what the dragon has become known for. While they are still a single word, draconic is an extremly complex language, and translated these names tend to have long meanings, like “the wings that block the sun” or “the blazing fire that burns down kingdoms”.

A fascinating aspect of dragons is the indoctrination effect they possess, known as the Dragon Aura. Non-dragons that spend too much time close to one will slowly become more and more obedient to their command, until they become fully submissive. This is not something dragons have control over, but rather a constant fact of their biology. The older a dragon is, the stronger their dragon aura will become. Old dragons can use this effect to have other races guard their lairs, without having to worry about revolts.

Over the eons, different creatures have appeared that have dragon blood within them, known as dragon-kin. The known ones are Kirins, Cockatrices, Hydras and Tatzelwurms. While these creatures lack the inmortality of the dragons, they still possess really long lifespans, and, with the exception of the kirin, can also grow to huge dimensions.”
