Description
- Marina in both her natural form and unicorn glamour disguise. She infiltrated Canterlot Castle as a handmaid to Luna, her mother. She eventually became the personal nanny of Pyrinos, her younger half-brother and the only child Luna believe she had at the time. Pyrinos is one of the few ponies who know she is not really a unicorn.
- “Mari! Can you teach me to look normal?”
A young Pyrinos bounding up to Marina. Before he could use glamours, Pyrinos was a very sickly and starving looking pony due to being part umbrum despite the fact he was perfectly healthy. Marina was a little hesitant to teach such advanced spell to a foal but after seeing how the castle servants treated him with disdain and fear simply for his looks, she conceded.
- “Come on, Ri – I know you can do it!” Marina watched the young foal in front of her with rapt attention, ready to jump in should his concentration fail or the spell backfired. “Hold your concentration, picture what you want to look like in your mind, feel it in your heart… And cast the spell.”
4 - 5) Marina was thrilled when Pyrinos was first able to cast a glamour on himself. She’d been teaching her little brother for almost two years and finally, he was ready. He could be a normal colt. He could walk through the halls and the streets without ponies scrambling back in disgust, whispering behind their hooves or simply ducking into the nearest room. Her heart swelled until it felt like it would burst out of her chest, and when he broke into tears at his success, she gathered him up in her hooves and told him how proud of him.
–
I realized that I had almost no real character development for Pyrinos so I drew some up! I imagine that at first Marina didn’t want anything to do with her half-brother but after seeing the castle workers treat him like a curse and scramble away from him down the halls, she made it her mission to help this misunderstood child. She was, after all, the goddess of luck. How could she abandon someone going through such misfortune?
Marina and Pyrinos are very close since she was his personal nanny and they remained so for decades, even when Pyrinos becomes a strict and tactful general of his mother’s Lunar Guard, he still trots up to her with a grin and they’ll nuzzle in greeting.
