The joy and pride of the students and the extra, unnecessary responsibility of the teacher. No class is complete without one- a fact that applies even to the rambunctious class of the KOPverse.
In fact, the school year had barely started before the students started pestering Pumpkin for one, and who was she to deny her students the oppertunity to learn responsibility through the caretaking of an animal? When Pumpkin allowed the kids to vote for what species they wanted, they’re were to choose from a list that she wrote up, so she as to avoid drawing a ‘Dog’ or ‘Python’ from the box. It was a such simple system, Pumpkin expected it go smoothly.
Leave it to Harmony to complicate things by bringing a baby sentient frog with a disability to class.
Of course the students instantly fell in love with the talking toad-thingy, and it didn’t matter what animal Pumpkin picked from the box, they all refused to get it for the class. It was either Buffy, or nothing.
Pumpkin herself was on the fence. I mean, it’s not everyday you get to observe the actions and behaviors for such a rare species, such as the Bufogen. Not to mention It would be a much more interesting learning experience than with your everyday hamster. But the work, time, money, and rules that would be required to keep one happy and healthy just seemed to impossible to Pumpkin. Despite all that, the class refused to give up on Buffy.
It was only after many parent-teacher conferences, several fundraisers, and weeks of going over the enormous amount of rules the class would have to keep to a T, did they finally manage to work the whole thing out. The Ponyville school house would go down in history for being the first class to have a Bufogen as their class pet.
As for Buffy, he seems pretty happy. So long as the foals don’t yell to close to his sound-proof cage and give him plenty of space, he doesn’t mind the occasional fawning pets from their grubby hooves and their attempts to teach him new words. Buffy’s basically the spoiled baby of the class and he likes it that way.
