Personality / Background:
Cinnamon Star is a relatively friendly but loud pony who loves to show off his flying, though less in showy ways like the Wonderbolts and more in precision flight and aerial agility like what the Royal Guard does. As a soldier, Cinnamon is strong, resilient, and respectful. As Amour’s bodyguard, he is loyal, kind, and dependable. He always has Amour’s well-being in mind first, to the point where he often forgets to take care of himself.
He has a strong connection to his Spanish heritage and takes pride in being of Colta (a pun on Cuba) heritage, even if his light accent and foreign food lunches did give him some bullies in school. He was never anything but proud of where he came from and will purposefully do them more just to piss off people who try to start shit with him over it. When he told his best friend, Prince Amour, he could speak Spanish, Amour insisted on getting a tutor in the subject and is now fairly fluent in it. They will often write their letters in Spanish to avoid Blueblood snooping through their letters to each other.
He’s smaller than the average male pegasus, which made Victory Vale worry he wouldn’t make the cut at the academy, but he succeeded with top marks and earned his place in the Royal Guard. He is currently employed as Prince Amour’s personal bodyguard and the two are very close.
Relationships:
Cinnamon Star’s relationship with his fathers were like night and day. Victory Vale never fully recovered after being forced to retire and was a little rough around the edges, to say the least. He supported his kids in areas he thought were best for them and encouraged them to do things he thought were right for them. This often put him at odds with Cinnamon Star, who was very free-spirited and would often ignore VV to do what he was passionate about. When Cinnamon Star said he wanted to join the Royal Guard, Victory Vale didn’t approve and tried to stop him which lead to a very tense few months of cold-shoulders and silence treatments from Cinnamon Star. But seeing how hard Cinnamon Star was training on his own made Victory Vale realize that his son was serious and was going to go through with it no matter what, so he decided he might as well help him out. He approached his son one night while he was training, apologized for trying to stop him, and said if he wanted to get into the training academy he was going to need a different routine. Cinnamon Star forgave him easily enough and with his father’s personalized training regimen and advice, he aced the entrance exams and graduated from the training academy at the top of his class.
Cinnamon Star’s relationship with Dulce de Leche is very different, with his papa being a very supportive and cheerful. Being from Colta, he often spoke spanish around the house, which was picked up by his kids at an early age and throughout their lives. Cinnamon Star speaks English more often than Spanish but is fluent in both and can have full conversations and debates in Spanish with Dulce and Valor. He was by no means a pushover, however, and it was argued that Dulce was the more strict of the two parents, though he had a more kindly and persuasive way of getting the kids to obey rules and stay out of trouble.
Cinnamon Star and Velvet Valentine were very close as foals and would always defend each other and support each other’s dreams and talents. Though over time, due to some personal issues, Velvet started closing herself off to her brother and parents. It wasn’t until Cinnamon walked in on Velvet putting on make-up that he realized why she’d been closing herself off so much, and then had a talk about all the body dysphoria, depression, and anxiety she was constantly feeling, and why she hardly ever came out for meals anymore. Cinnamon encourage Velvet to talk to Dulce about it and that he’d still lover her no matter what. Cinnamon Star supported her when she came to first Dulce and then eventually VV, and was surprised when the later was oddly understanding and not mad at all. Velvet was so happy and admitted that she wanted to be called Velvet Valentine instead of Velvet Valor. VV teased why she’d want to change her name with how much valor she showed in coming out to them, but accepted the name change nonetheless. Cinnamon was then often privy to Velvet’s bouts of depression and anxiety attacks, and quickly learned how to help her through them. He and VV also made sure to find a exercise regimen that would keep Velvet slim and not bulky. Cinnamon and Velvet grew close again and often go out for lunch or dinner whenever they see each other.
When he was just a foal, Cinnamon Star ran into (quite literally) a young Prince Amour who had run away from Canterlot after a fight with his dad, Prince Blueblood. Cinnamon Star showed him around Ponyville and they had a ton of fun, quickly becoming friends. When Cinnamon called them such, Amour was very surprised and started crying because he didn’t have any friends. Even though Cinnamon Star didn’t know he was the prince, he promised to always be his friend no matter what. Later that day when they were found by one of the search parties that had been sent out looking for him, Prince Amour made him promise to keep in touch and Cinnamon Star gave him his address to send him letters. They were frequent pen pals, receiving letters from the other as often as every other day, and when Cinnamon Star found out Amour didn’t have a personal bodyguard, he became determined to get into the Royal Guard so that he could be Amour’s bodyguard. He graduated the top of his class and ranked up to the required rank very quickly, and on Amour’s twentieth birthday, he selected Cinnamon Star from a line of other candidates to be his personal bodyguard, much to the disdain of Blueblood. Later, when Amour and Cinnamon’s relationship takes a turn for the romantic, they often sneak off during parties and outings for some alone-time without the ever-watchful eyes of the palace guards and the Canterlot Elite and paparazzi. Their relationship is still a secret to the public and only a select few know about it.
Blueblood and Cinnamon Star do not get along, though the later is always polite and respectful because he knows that the aristocrat has the power to demote and forcefully retire the young pegasus if he should so choose. Blueblood suspects their relationship is more than just that of a prince and his bodyguard, but can never seem to catch them in any unsolicited activities.
