Very quickly after I released the 21 second “The Magic Inside 3D” preview animation test, I quickly got feedback from many, many people that some of the lipsyncing was a bit off. More specifically when there were “Ooo” sounds and others like it, my model never pucker her lips properly for those sounds. So right now my priority is to bring some attention to the rigging I have set up for the mouth.

Before, the mouth was almost completely driven by lattices deforming the mesh. It did use two shape keys before, but just for bringing the corners of the mouth up or down for a smile or frown. But clearly I’ll need more shape keys for extreme mouth shapes. What you’re seeing here in this image is the first pass for a puckered lip shape key. How does it look?

I’ll also probably want to create more shape keys on the other extreme where the mouth might enlarge to create an extremely exaggerated expression.

Also been experimenting with the lighting once more. If Coloratura here was looking at something with that expression on her face, I figured she would need to look at something. I made it so that the light in the front was what she was looking at, and tried to make that the focus of the lighting.
