Why is it that my favorite characters are always the hardest to draw? Meet Captain Waterfire, another character for my little comic project thing. She is based on the G3 earth pony Waterfire, who also got released as a G4 unicorn blindbag figure. http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Waterfire
Her entire crew is going to consist of G3 ponies. Seeing as G3 ponies have kind of turned into unwanted misfits I think it would work out well. That and G3 ponies have some really awesome tropical designs.
Here are some things about Waterfire:
-Waterfire comes from a long line of pirates. In fact, everyone in her family has ties to piracy. Well…everyone except Waterfires own sister, Firecracker burst. She is a librarian. It’s terribly embarrassing. Granny Cutthroat always wanted her to become a rum smuggler…It broke her heart.
-Waterfire and her crew have been on non-active for a while. This is because of governor Galleon and her harsh treatment of pirates. There’s no pirate ship that dares to come close to Kelp Island or any of the neighboring islands. It’s like hunting pirates is Galleons only concern. Waterfire is working on something that will put them “back in business” though. It will take a while and for now they have to remain in hiding…but once her little project is finished it’s going to be a “blast”.
-Waterfire has a few noticeable characteristics. For example, she looks like she is in a constant state of sleep deprivation. However this might have something to do with her overuse of eyeliner. (She better gets some waterproof eyeliner once she sets sail again.)
She also has a small scar on her cheek and a missing tooth. Not very impressive for a pirate (especially compared to missing eyes and limbs) but Waterfire will spin a tale around it anyways. The current consensus is that her tooth got knocked out while wrestling a shark.
-Speaking of tales, Waterfire tells many of them. Not just tall tales about herself but tales and legends about all the islands and their (mystic) inhabitants. She learned most of them from her grandmother. Her crew is however very, very, very, very, veeery sick of hearing them.
-Waterfire tries very hard to proof herself. She isn’t some silly treasure hunter. No, Waterfire does the whole pillaging and violence thing. Her crew sees her as a stern but loyal (and slightly weird) captain. She doesn’t shy away from the occasional tirade/scolding or the occasional “knock against the head”.
-Waterfire seems to handle alcohol extremely well. That or she is actually drunk all the time.
-Waterfire has the odd habit of walking on her hind legs from time to time. She hardly notices this herself. According to Waterfire it has something to do with her “ancestors” and she mostly acts annoyed when people point this out to her. Her crew finds it to be a rather disturbing habit. Kind of like watching a dog constantly walk on his hind legs. It gets weird…
-Sword fighting is Waterfires number one hobby. One day she wants to be able to fight with 8 swords at a time, just like the legendary pirate princess. Even if said princess never existed.
