Turquoise Edge could feel her heart pounding out of her chest. Nerves and shame and humiliation were all she could think about. “Mel! Mel, where are you?” She called out as she frantically scouted Ponyville from the sky. “Please, Mel! I want to talk to you!”
 
With Mel nowhere in sight, Turquoise took a sharp turn and found herself soaring above acres upon acres of apple trees. Sweet Apple Acres. If Mel was anywhere, she was at home with her family.
 
“Mel!” She touched down at the edge of a clearing, whipping her head around in search of her mare. And then, at the top of a haybale, she spotted her.
 
“Thank Celestia I found you,” Turquoise breathed a sigh of relief. “Can we-” The pegasus stopped midflight as she heard soft sobbing. Mel’s head was buried in her hooves, her shoulders shaking as she cried.
 
“Mel?” Turquoise’s heart shattered st the sight. “Can we talk? Please?”
 
“Turq?” Mel jolted upwards and quickly wiped her eyes as she caught sight of her. “U-uh…howdy…”
 
“Look,” Turquoise approached slowly. “I…I’m…I owe you an apology, Mel. I was an asshole. I never meant to hurt your feelings, you know that’s the last thing I want. I…shouldn’t have let my personal conflicts get in the way of our relationship.” She shut her eyes tight, refusing to let them well with tears. “I should’ve thought before saying those things. I shouldn’t have been so rude to you and the restaurant ponies.”
 
She shot a nervous glance at the earth pony, who wiped a tear from her cheek.
 
“I don’t want to lose you, Mel. I love you. But I know that you deserve better than me, so if you want to break up, I won’t stop you. But…e-either way, know that I’m sorry.” Turquoise refused eye contact, throat tightening. “I’m so sorry.”
 
Mel looked down, silent for a moment.
 
“Turq, I’m sorry. Sorry fer takin’ you somewhere we both knew ya wouldn’t like. And sorry fer not listenin’ and takin’ yer feelings into account. I shoulda supported you. It’s as much my fault as it is yers.” She turned her gaze back up at the pegasus. “Turq, I-I’d never break up with you. I love you.”
 
Turq was almost surprised. “R-really?” She swallowed back tears. “But…I was…I was such a…”
 
She was cut off by a gentle hoof on her cheek. “I mean it, Turq. I love you. I’d never leave you.”
 
“Well…if you’re willing to look past that, then there’s no doubt you could look past my…other flaws. I want to be the best mare I can be for you. Be the best mare I can for us…for the rest of our lives.” Turquoise pulled out a small velvet box, opening it to reveal a glittering diamond perched atop a golden hoop. “Pristine Melody, will you marry me?”
 
A long moment of shocked silence was broken by a soft chuckle from Mel. She, too, pulled something out from beside her. It was another velvet box, showing a ring almost identical to the one Turquoise offered her. “Only if you’ll marry me back.”
 
Turquoise was so taken aback that she almost dropped the engagement ring into the grass below them. “W-woah,” she finally managed to stammer. “I…is that what you meant, ‘planning this for who knows how long’?”
 
Mel nodded solemnly, a gentle smile on her face. “So…will ya?”
 
“I asked you first,” Turquoise teased.
 
“C’mere, you.” Mel grabbed Turquoise’s hoof and pulled her toward her, pressing a kiss to her lips.
 
Mel’s ears pricked as she heard soft sniffling from the mare embracing her.  
“Are you cryin’?”
 
“N-no! I…I’m allergic to hay!” She pulled away, wiping her eyes and giving the most pathetic fake sneeze.
 
Mel scoffed. A flash of light caught her eye. She glanced up to see two shooting stars gliding across the night sky. “Look!” She cried. “It’s my grandparents. They’re watchin’ over us.”
 
“Make a wish.” Turquoise gripped Mel’s hoof in hers.
 
Mel chuckled a reply, kissing her fiancé’s cheek. “I don’t need to. It’s already come true.”
