She was in the most comfortable bed she’d ever slept in, on a peaceful, clear night with her pregnant wife snuggled up against her. She should have been the happiest mare in the world right now, or at the very least content. But one question lingered on her mind.
“Are you sure?”
“What?” Radiant Jewel opened one of her big purple eyes, yawning as she pulled away from her and sat up, tiredly brushing her mane away from her face. “Am I sure about what, exactly?”
“Are you sure you really love me? I mean, we’re married now so it shouldn’t even be a question, but are you really sure?”
“That’s what I’ve been wondering about you! I love you dearly darling but…can you tell me that once the baby is born you won’t leave? Can you tell me that you’re ready to commit? Why would we be married if I haven’t?” Noticing her wife’s hesitancy, she tilted her head up to look her in the eye. “I’m not going to leave you when you have our baby. I’m not like him, slacking off in the face of responsibility. We both wanted this, right? What’s this all about?”
Jewel’s eyes went wide as she felt a bit of guilt twinge in the pits of her stomach…not an unfamiliar feeling. “No, I know you aren’t like him at all! I didn’t mean it that way, of course I wanted all this. I just know that commitment is a big deal and…” She bit her lip ever so slightly as if on the fence about something.
“Come on, Jewel. You know you can tell me anything. You know all about my fling with Firework, is there something else holding you up?” Storm wrapped a foreleg around her. “What’s wrong?”
“Well…you know Princess Firefly, right? Princess Luna and Queen Chrysalis’ daughter? We…used to date. We were madly, truly, deeply in love..at least I was. As things went on, it started going a bit south. Whenever I would call myself her girlfriend…”
