- Moonbeam is the second born and only daughter of Duke Blueblood and Trixie Lulamoon. Blueblood, upset that Pureblood denounced him as his father, requested a new heir from Trixie. And even after their argument and Trixie’s pleading; she ended up getting pregnant again anyways. After a long 12 months, Trixie gave birth to her daughter in her room, by herself. Already having gone through it with Pureblood, she knew what to expect. When Blueblood met the new baby, he was a bit upset it was a female. Trixie didn’t want her daughter growing up with an emotionally abusive father like Pureblood did, and Trixie decided to run away taking Moonbeam with her away from Canterlot.
Trixie ran to the Crystal Empire and seeked shelter with Starlight and her family until she could get on her hooves.
After a while, and with Princess Celestia’s help, the divorce papers were created and their marriage was void. Trixie knew she couldn’t forbid Blueblood from seeing his daughter, but she pleaded that he was to be escorted by a guard while visiting. But he never came to see them. Trixie didn’t hide the fact that Blueblood was Moon’s father, in fact; as Moonbeam got older, Trixie told her everything about her father.. So she knew her daughter would know just how horrible of a stallion he really was. Moonbeam respects her mother and the choices she made, and never sought out her father’s attention.
- Although Moonbeam is a rather sweet pony, every so often she will show signs of vanity and selfishness. She tries to control it, but she has trouble sharing or letting other ponies get something she wanted.
- Moonbeam’s cutie mark, a dove, is not only from helping her mother care for the doves in her acts, but also is symbolic for peace and hope for a better future for her and her family.
- When Moonbeam was finally old enough to go out on her own, she would visit Ponyville to see her brother, Pureblood and her niece, Celestine. Trixie thinks it was hanging out Clarity that brought out the vain side of Moonbeam. She doesn’t blame Clarity in a bad way, she just believes that’s what sparked that side of her.. Obviously, she blamed Blueblood for passing down that gene to her.
- Despite their parents still not really liking one another, Moonbeam admires Nova. Twilight and Trixie still may never see eye to eye, but Moonbeam goes to Nova for advice on how to be brave and to help protect her family. Plus, she likes playing with Quetzalli when she gets the chance. Moonbeam is considering joining the Guard, but she isn’t sure she’d be any good at it.
- Fun Fact: Moonbeam is about the same age as Nova is to Crescendo.
