Sunrise Horizon was happy and nothing would ever change that.
The End
––
(Below is the Q&A between Bath and anons. Read and Enjoy! -Psker)
-Q&A-
Anon: I sure do hope it was the right choice.
Bath: Don’t worry, it was. The ocean was perilous and simply haunting the lighthouse would have brought her an eternity of loneliness. also there were some unpleasant things in the cellar. As for her memories, they’ll eventually come back to her, but they are very painful.
Anon: Could you share what those things are? Also how many endings did this cyoa have?
Bath: There were somewhere between 4 and 6 that I had planned out. Like using the wooden cart as a raft, getting caught by the monster and stuff. The cellar was full of things the organ grinder monster has gathered to draw in the children’s souls that it was collecting as well as the captured lost souls.
Anon: So was that the end?
Bath: Well yeah, it was only supposed to last one night but I’m all slow and shit.
Anon: That was awful.
Bath: I’m sorry, I wanted to have this be a quick little ghost story quest for Halloween since Landfall is no longer a Halloween quest at this point. I guess I could have done more to make the lighthouse more threatening visually and I should have placed more twisted children’s belongings in the rooms as well as some traps and other failed infrastructure, but I really just wanted to do this in one night and be done. The fact that I failed to draw 25 panels in that time means that I really have something that I desperately need to work on but speed is a bitch to increase.
Anon: Why did one of her cutie marks get scarred with a hourglass symbol? I was also curious to know what the significance was of the hollow box with blood stains and dented nail.
Bath: It had to do with the soul collector that was chasing her down. She was marked so the collector could sense her. The Branding never physically happened, it was just how the locating spell appeared on her. The box was from another less fortunate soul trying to use the stuff left in the lighthouse to escape.
Anon: So what was in the basement underneath the trap door? Also what was the soul collector doing to the one’s it caught?
Bath: I assume that the Soul collector did something along the same lines of the mare with the carnival but wherever it keeps the souls is going to be a worse place because the collector wasn’t a benevolent being. I’ll just stay that the player made the correct choice. The cellar represented the place where the souls were being kept.
Anon: So why did some of the souls have red eyes and others did not? How come so many had appeared on the island? Were they drawn there?
Bath: Yeah, the eye colors changing was just because I figured I liked the white better after a while .
The island had a bunch of Souls there because the collector drew them there with that same spell that left the hourglass mark on Sunrise Horizon. Also the island physically existed there but some of the things in and around the lighthouse were part of the etherial plane that Sunrise was in and not the physical one. The island and lighthouse were actually there and I intended to tie the physical location in with this picture >>1260070 if the player pursued figuring out more about the lighthouse. Keeper was mostly from me trying to use aspects from a sidequest I have written for Ascent.
Anon: So does that mean the players could actually visit that place in Ascent? So how would the island lore tie into that picture with the unicorn? Or is that a Ascent spoiler?
Bath: Yeah. The lighthouse would be hard to find in Ascent since it takes place close to the middle of what will later be Equestria. But the lighthouse was kept by a the pony in the picture after her father was lost at sea. She couldn’t get off of the island since she had no boat and eventually lived her last days tending to the lighthouse herself.
Anon: And I assume that her character was on the island as well as a soul herself? Maybe one that would talk?
Bath: Naw she moved on. But the way that she left the world made the lighthouse a place that the collector could use.
Sort of like a negative energy trap that draws in souls that died due to a tragic event.
Anon: So how did the Unicorn die? Suicide? Some sort of ritual?
Bath: Starvation.
Anon: Oh. And so that method of death is what caused the place to haunted by the Soul Collector.
Bath: Yes, with the way it happened. Since she starved to death after her father was lost in the storm because nobody knew that she needed help on the island.
Anon: Does the soul collector always look the same to each soul or do each perceive it differently?
Bath: They all see it the same way.
Anon: So did any of the objects in the Lighthouse have any symbolic significance? Such as to her past. For example I thought the tiny doll she found looked vaguely like Nadine. Also how much content did we likely miss in the cyoa?
Bath: The doll she found was a Nadine doll. That had no significance. Also I wrote a spoiler on the hoof box in one panel. Since Sunrise wan’t really written out that thoroughly there wasn’t much I put in there that was significant to her besides the injuries she started off with that weren’t the brand on her flank. The music box and busker organs thing was mostly to do with the Lost soul stuff I wrote for ascent.
Anon: So how is Ascent progressing? It sounds very promising.
Bath: I plan on starting it after 11-54 comes to a close. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.
I’ve got too many quests that take place after the show right now. it’ll be nice to have something set in the past again.
Anon: Well I’m looking forward to it. Were you surprised or pleased in how quickly the players triggered one of the endings?
Bath: I figured that it would last about as long as it did. I tried to keep things short for that one.
Anon: Well it worked out pretty well.
