“Mothers of Harmony” character bio #2: my personal take on Applejack’s mother.
 
BIO: The pride and joy of the Apple family, Red Splendor is just as worldly and full of folksy knowledge as her mother Granny Smith. Named for her vibrant red hair, Red is well-known around Ponyville for her reliability and amazing generosity. When she isn’t tending to her many chores around Sweet Apple Acres, she loves to bird-watch and draw in her journal. These qualities and more have made Red the object of affection for numerous stallions around town, but only one pony has really caught her fancy, and it is with this pony that Red finally settled down to have a family. (Much to the delight of Ma Smith, who has pestered Red about grandfoals for as long as she can remember.)
 
ELEMENT: Generosity
 
DESIGN: G3 Applejack served as a major inspiration in designing Red Splendor; she has the same cutie mark, but instead of a red coat and green mane, she has a green coat and red mane. Part of the reason for the red mane was because I intended for her to share at least one physical trait with Apple Bloom. If the show writers ever decide to explore Applejack’s parents further, maybe I’ll make some design updates.
